Question 2500 vs 3500 Leaf Pack Differences

I am just curious as to the differences between the 2500 and the 3500 leaf packs. Number of springs and ride height. I'd like to add an inch or two to the rear of the truck and wondering if I can just trade out the leaf springs to do it.

add-a-leaf or two of them will get ur rear up a couple inches and get rid of the 3/4 ton squat at the same time

I have talked to a couple of shops around town about just adding the leaf and they talked like it is not a good idea, better to just replace the whole pack. I didn't really understand their reasoning for it.

I can tell you the reason. If the spring rate of the leafs are too different then you will get stress points on the leaves and possibly break them. Think about putting an I beam as the third leaf. The first one would do nothing because the beam doesn't flex and the 4rth on leaves are now forces to bend in an ess shape instead of a compressed arc with the center of the ess at the end of the beam

My 95 was 2 add-a-leafs on each side in the rear. I don't like them, it can be pretty hard on the kidneys to try and drive my rig on anything but smooth roads.

Airbags , would be a much better way to go.

I am pretty sure a place like Deaver Spring can get you a new set and not only add the height you are looking for but also get rid of the stock riser blocks which would be a plus(not sure if the 99's have the blocks like my 01 does).

But Deaver wants over $800 for a set of new spring packs....they don't typically do a production run for Dodge springs. Deaver is going to re-work my stock leaf packs for about half the cost of new springs. Basically they'll take the stock overload and a few more leafs out and replace them with a progressive spring pack....kinda like the KORE mini pack but with a few more leafs.

1 ton springs will rattle your teeth loose. Ditto with AAL's, I have one and it's going south.

Deaver is one of, if not THE best manufacturer there is for leaf springs, but you pay for it. They're relatively close to me and I've done business with them before, that's why I use them.

You might try Atlas spring, I've heard good things about their work and they might be cheaper.

Between Being the 3/4Ton and the Bilstein Shocks I can't imagine it being able to ride much stiffer than it does already. These shocks are great for handling loads but for somebody with just a drive around truck they are way to stiff.

I added a leaf out of my old spring pack (bent the top leaf because of a drunk driver) and then I added another Super Duty leaf from a spring pack I had laying around. It rides a bit rough, but it's a truck. I'd say it raised the rear about 2 1/2".

I was told there is no difference between the 2500 and 3500 springs. That the only differences between the two trucks are DRW and Dana 80 rear axle.

Any truth to this?

On my 2001.5 2500 4x4 with Camper package the springs appear the same, however the part numbers are one off of each other on the main spring pack. The overload springs carry the same part number. SNOKING

I am assuming that the final concesus on this is that 1-ton springs are not the way to go. So what are some sugestions to get the 1"-2" lift in the rear. I would hate to just put a taller block and U bolts in there but it sounds like the simplest thing to do.

I think the 6" of block from the factory is the MAX for blocks... More than I want back there... I would say new/re-arched spring packs, an AAL (be stiffer, ride pretty rough) or air bags would be your options. I'm not sure the air bags would do what you want, but it seems like they would, someone will chime in...

you can buy heavier spring packs from J.C. Whitney, I think they have a couple more leafs in them & are only around $100-150 a set I think, you can search their site on the web & find them, they sell replacement sets that are supposed to be the same as stock & then the heavier packs with more leafs, might be an option????
