Has anyone put 235/85x16's on a 96 dually? I'd like the bigger tire for the better weight rating. If you have pictures of the space between the tires, that would be nice. Would really like the bigger tire but don't want to buy them and find out they don't fit. Looking to buy tires in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for any help.

they will fit just fine I have 235s on all 3 of our second gens they fit fine no rubbing or side wall touching

 

Hey Rebal, do you haul any weight with those tires and no rubbing, I have about 4,000 lbs. I haul (camper) and just want to make sure. Are you using the stock wheels, 4 hole?

I did that to my 97 to help run lower RPM at higher speeds. No problems what so ever, hauled heavy

Well I guess they'll work, I just didn't want to spend the money on new tires and have them rub. I'll be getting the 235's in a couple of weeks and write back with the out come. Thanks for the info.

Back to your other question...I hauled a full load of scrap steel in my box.....the weight was 3,200 lbs...The rear duallies had alot of space between the tires.. You should be ok with 4,000 lbs..

What tires are you getting??

 

Still undecided yet, I've always used Michelin but the last 2 sets the sidewalls have cracked terribly, so I think I'm going with something a little less expensive, thinking about Kumho or Cooper?

Cooper has been good for my hauling uses. They make a Mastercraft that I am running right now, and love'em.If you get any rub problems just put a 1/4" spacer between the wheels. But I never had problems with 235/85/16s on mine.

 

Any idea where I can get a 1/4" spacer, just incase?

yes the trucks are loaded to the max and haul 4 -6 days a week with sometimes pulling trailers up to 22.5 K stock wheels no issues

I'll probably be getting the tires next week, I'll report back on how they fit! Hopefully I won't need the spacers.

Have you used the spacers, if so, are the wheel studs long enough whiskers?
