same old stuff check the fuel pressure and everything else mentioned here.not a bad price for the low miles for sure . my 01 4x4 auto gets 18.5 all day empty and towing the 5th = 10k gets me 10mpg at 60mph with no mods. some run forever some don't

I would recommend you pay what you need to in order to keep your '95 going, I am not so sure you will be thrilled with the switch to a 2nd gen truck as there are many more electronics to go bad on them, and they do...
If I had a 12V, I would stick with it.
Just my .02

I paid 12,300 for my 01 3500 4x4. Needed a new front end, brakes, exhaust and minor body repair. 53 block w/140k. Love the truck! 18-19 empty all day long. Haven't towed yet. This vintage know for eating IP's and LP's but I wouldn't trade.....
Hope this helps.

Just paid 10,250 for a 2002 ram quad cab with the 5.9 diesel. Went on a long trip the very next day after purchase, about 900 miles up to philly towing a 2500 lb popup through the mountains of west virginia and averaged 19.1 mpg. Was extremely pleased. I did spend another 1k on new tires all around, rear rotors and brakes when i got to philly.

After i arrived back home a week later i let the truck sit for 2 days and then it would not start. I started reading about the code 216 and the lift pump problems. Since the truck has 123K on it its probably due for a new lift pump and it looks like a new ip. Finally got it started by cracking the injector lines and clearing out the codes (not sure if clearing the codes 216 & 460 did anything though). I am planning on mounting a fuel pressure gauge and a new lift pump very shortly, as soon as i decide which is best, the fass or a redesigned carter)

Still I am very pleased with the deal i got and the truck itself.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Get it and never look back. Even with the VP44 history is great truck.

Sounds more like a rotting fuel hose or leak somewhere. Cracking the injectors means you had to get air out of the system. I'd throw a good lift pump and hose system at it, replace all the old lines, and keep on trucking.

You may be right on the money. This morning i checked the fuel pressure at the test port on the ip and with just the lift pump running there was about 7 lbs of pressure. When i started the truck (and it started right away) there was hardly any pressure at all so i shut down and changed the fuel filter. Primed the lines and started her up and pressure was at 10psi. So I think problem solved. I drove about 130 miles stopping 4 times. each time she would start right up. Got home and left her in the driveway on an uphill incline. Went back out 2 hours later and she would not start. I had to let the starter turn for awhile.

Tomorrow I order a new lift pump, new hoses, and maybe a new drawstraw to alleviate the 1/4 tank problem. Hopefully the vp44 will last awhile longer if i keep an eye on the fuel pressure and add 2 stroke oil to every fillup.

You will probably still run into the same tranny isues down the road and on top of that you will be replacing VP pumps. If it were me I'd stick a Goerends behind the 12 valve. The other option would be to hold out for a 24 valve with a 6 speed. .02 cents.

Do it once, do it right. Go with a FASS or an Airdog/Raptor.

Any other way is just NOT reliable.

My only concern would be the automatic trans. If I'd known to put a fuel pressure guage in it from the start, I'd have headed off the only real problems the truck has ever had.
