1999 Brake booster oil leak

On a 1999 2500 does it not have a brake booster like the 95? I have a friend that says his is leaking power steering fluid from or around the master cylinder area. I have not saw the truck but he has used dye and still can not find where it is coming from. He said it does not have a booster like mine. He said it is losing quite abit of oil.

He has hydraulically assisted brakes that run off the power steering pump and is probably leaking PS fluid.

Yes he said it was PS fluid he just can't find out where it is coming from. Somewhere close to the master cylinder.

Probable Hydraboost, check his lines to it carefully, if it isn't them, it is the Hydraboost itself.

Yea I googled it and found out about it. Another person on mopar1973man's.com had the same problem and was rebuilding it with pictures. I checked advance auto and they had a Reman for $200.00. The guy paid $25.00 I believe for the rebuild kit.

If I understand it right if your PS fluid gets to low you lose steering and brakes. Suposedly this thing has a weap hole in the bottom and if it is bad it leaks out there. I may not be right about this but I read it in several places.

Nope, you have it right, other than you don't lose the actual steering and brakes, you just lose the power assist, which in these trucks, is significant.

Thanks for the thread tips...been looking for the leak for 4 days now after adding ps fluid. Finally got someone to pump the break and realized it was leaking from "somewhere" in between the hydraboost and the master cyclinder. Thanks for clarifying there is a weep hole on the bottom that leaks when it's going out. Ordered one from ORiley $230. Now the joy of swapping it while on the road.

Swapped out the hydraboost, double checked all connections and started. Turned steering wheel left/right a few times to get the system bled. Went to check the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor. Tried pulling it up and it would barely come up. Had someone watching and when barely moving the brake pedal, the new hydraboost was leaking from the weep hole. I work 24/7 and I'm not a happy camper waiting another 24hrs for a replacement. Is there something that sounds incorrect or did I get a faulty replacement? Any help would be appreciated.

Sadly, remans do not have a spectacular track record...... Try the 2nd one.

swapped in the second one. Bled the system, no leaks but the brake pedal goes to the floor and literally has to be pulled back up. Man....any help is appreciated when you're 1k mi from home.

Found another point online. The small spring and rod assembly inside the hydraboost needs to be removed and installed. Take note that: the spring/rod assembly inside the old hydraboost, firewall gasket, and master cyclinder bracket all need to be removed and installed on the new hydraboost before returning the core for refund.
I think I'm back on the road.
