In 1997 was there a factory automatic locking feature?

Dumb question, buddy just bought a niiice 97 CCLB 4X4. It is fairly stock, but the one thing that startled me was when you start it up, after about 2 seconds, the doors lock automatically. Looking at it, I can't see any aftermarket alarm or remote start system, and the thing still has the original Infinity stereo, so it wasn't like a previous owner was electronics happy.

Was there a programmable auto-lock function in 1997?

No, I don't recall Chrysler ever using that style of auto locks on any of their product line. Their style was always rolling door locks, the ones that would auto lock when the vehicle speed hit like 12 MPH, but I'm sure they never offered that on the trucks until at least 1998 when they started building them with body control modules. Somebody must have hidden an aftermarket module somewhere in there.

Grrrr......... Thanks, that's what I thought. If there is an aftermarket unit on it they did an extremely nice job.

Time to start pulling panels.

Yeah, usually that add-on stuff is pretty obvious with wire and Scotch-loks hanging everywhere. It's sure a good sign if it got installed in a tidy fashion. I've seen lots of that type of stuff get hidden behind the driver's kick panel, in front of the driver door. They usually intercept the power lock wiring right there where it enters the pillar.
