Re:140 amp alternator fuse

I'm gonna suggest maybe a big truck dealer/parts place. I'm sure they have some pretty big alternators on those rigs, and sometimes they even go with a standard fuse type that would be interchangable.

I blew that fuse also. Only place to get it is at the dealer. I paid 21.00. Did you blow it changing your oil filter? ;D

Re:140 amp alternator fuse

It would be smart to cover the exposed post on the alternator before anyone else needs this expensive fuse on a weekend.

Re:140 amp alternator fuse

Just a thought, has anyone tried to replace the fuse with a breaker type? Seems like it would be worth the effort to try and find such an animal. Might do a little surfing for such this eve.

I agree, some way to cover the alt. bolt is a good idea. When I pull my filter, I lay a pieceof vinyl over the alt. I can see how easy it would be to hit that sucker with a wrench. Kevin

Re:140 amp alternator fuse

I picked mine up from the dealer, no auto parts stores carried a fuse that large. I bought a spare also, can't remember if it was $8 for the two, or around $8 each, but certainly not $21 for one. Prices will vary between dealers, so I'd suggest calling around if you have a few in your area.

Re:140 amp alternator fuse

well finally got home from my trip and picked the fuse up from the dealer for $7.40.

nailbender - yep, thats exactly how i popped it

kd460 - ill have to cover the exposed part of the alternator next time like u said......this wasnt a big deal but happened a very inoppourtune (sp?) time. i was thinkn about a breaker as well, my subs and amp are also on a 140 amp fuse but have a breaker, sure would be nice for the alternator.

guess ill just have to be more careful changing my oil next time

thanks again for all the help

Check this TSB, then go back to your Dodge dealer with a copy of it.

Re:140 amp alternator fuse

My friend blew the generator fuse in his truck and he bought two when he found them and gave one to me for a spare.
