12V in a 95 1/2 Ton
12V in a 95 1/2 Ton
Hey all. This is my first post on here and let me say that I absolutely love this website. Lots and lots of information and some really neat pics. Now for the business end. I have a 1995 Reg. Cab Short Box 1/2 ton 4wd that I would like to put the 12 valve Cummins in. I have no idea where I even need to start, or if it's even possible, but I've personally never seen a Short Box with a Cummins and I'd like to do it. I don't really tow anything, it probably won't get a gooseneck ball, but I like the power and the economy that you can get with a diesel. Thanks in advance for the help.

Starting in 98 you could get a 2500 in a short bed. You might be better off trying to find one, instead of swapping. You would have to probally beef up the frame some, and a stronger front axle, probally swap out the rear as well so the bolt patterns would be the same...
Here is the shortbed I had.

Id agree here
lots of beefin up to do to handle a half ton of engine..

There is a guy down the street from my work that put a 12 valve in a Chevy 1500 with a D60 in the front and 40" tires. Seen a couple of different trucks that have started as gasser 1/2 tonnes and ended up completely different after lots of work.
Anything can be done just all depends on how much time and effort and money you want to put into it.
Unless you current 1500 is a ride you can't part with it would probably be a lot easier (maybe cheaper?) to find a 2500 12 valve truck and chop the box or cut the frame and fit a short box on it.

he also cut down a 2500... w/ a 2wd, I could MAYBE see swapping over an engine/tranny but w/ a 4wd, you've also got the transfer case and front/rear axles.
have you priced some of these parts lately? a decent 12v Cummins is gonna cost you $1500-2000, $750-1000 for an NV4500, $1500-2000 for axles, $300-500 for transfer case... bigger radiator, intercooler, and all kinds of miscelaneous stuff to get the swap completed...
so you're talking an EASY $4-6k in parts, never mind the labor...
just go buy a 4x4 2500 CTD for $6k and cut it down...
Mike had his short bed conversion done in a day.

Second, the guy is a MORON for supporting the front of his truck like this...
I see some jackstands back there, but with how much **** is stacked underneath them I doubt they are high enough or even supporting it...
He would have been better off buying a CTD and putting a lift kit on it...
