12 Volts When Ignition On, Where To Splice Into
i just bought a 2002 2wd from a 2nd owner, once i got the truck home i installed a Fuel Pressure Gauge. Idle at 10psi, 3 psi at 65 mph and 0 at pedel to the floor. After further inspection i found a second pump on the frame rail, looks like a filter, may be a carter i'm not sure but the wires form the pump under the were not hooked up to anything. I started the truck and held the wires on the battery, fuel pressure at idle went to 20 psi. From the looks of it i really need the secondary pump. My problem is where do i splice or hook into so that the pump comes on only when the ignition is on. Any help would be appreciated so i don't tear up a VP-44 with just using the lift pump on the block.

If the '02 is the same as the '03, you can just go into the fuse and relay block up front on the drivers side fender and look for a spare relay receptiical and find the relay spade plug that's switched with the key. They carry plenty of amps and they're protected under the plastic cover as well. I just ran my pump wire right up there and put a spade terminal on it and plugged it in. Been good for over 2 yrs now.

I would get a relay & power the control from the orig pump wires. Sometimes it will cause a hard start issue if there is too much fuel pressure when cranking over. The orig pump runs one short blip & cuts off until the engine starts.
