XD-3 0-30 Synthetic

I got a hell of a deal on a bunch of XD-3 0-30 synthetic engine oil I have been running 0-40 all season but was wondering if the lighter oil will be sufficiet for hauling in the summer. I'd appriciate any comments. thnx

I wouldn't recommend using it in the summer. If it's specs show that it's a heavy 30 grade, I would be comfortable using it in the dead of winter. However, I'd stick with a 40 grade, diesel rated heavy duty motor oil, especially if towing. JMO

why do you feel you need such a light oil ........... I run xd3-10w30 all winter and it starts down to the -30 range not plugged in and if it's plugged in it don't matter how cold it gets

as for summer I wouldn't run less than 15w40

Thanks for that I was'nt sure. One of the reasons I thought I would try lighter oil is because the oil pressure seems like it takes like 4 or 6 seconds to register on the guage and I thought that a lighter oil might help that. Does any one know if that is normal or should I be concerned

Thats pretty much normal....4 seconds not 6 seconds....

IMO the 0W30 is good viscosity for the winter but you need at least 0-40 in the summer, especially if you are towing or working the engine hard. The thirty is just too light.

BTW, welcome to the site.....there's a TON of great info. here.
