Wont go into 4X4 ?

I was out with grandad the other day and got into a slick spot.

I shifted the transfer case into 4 low. It felt fine but the dash board '4x4' lite didnt come on and it was obvious that it really wasnt in 4x4. Good thing that I had a place to get a running start at the slick hill or I would still be there.

What should I check first ? (2nd & 3rd.....etc)?

I have a 98.5 with a manual tranny.

Thanks ,

Dew.

Well,, HeeHee, it was the vacuum lines back by the X-fer case. Both torn off. I did remember going over a lot of nasty brush during deer season. The brush must have torn them off. Works fine now .
As for the last post .
The Vac lines are pretty easy to trace, start at the Vacuum pump ( right under the Injector pump. Make sure its hooked up , if its not , none of your vacuum operated things will work .

Thanks for the lead

Dew.

How was it hooked up backwards? Where the lines change to metal under the tranny? Or is it posible to have it connected wrong above the trany (4lines in a block connector)??

Just wondering cause mine indicates that I'm in 4WD but its not.
