Wont cool down

Now that the temps are in the 80's I cant get my egt's to 300 degrees before I shut down. I just put on a new BHAF to see if that would help but no such luck. What do you guys think.

Cool downs take forever with the AC on. What temps are you getting to?

Yep, ac coil keeps the intercooler hot so does not cool fast. For a fast shutoff, kill the air as you pull in cause the coil takes a few minutes to cool down.

My wife is real good about waiting for the truck to cool down before shutting down. However, it only took once for her to sit out in the driveway for over 5 minutes till I walked out to see what she was doing,,,,,,, She makes sure to turn the AC off now.
I've always had the habit of turning off the AC before shutting any vehicle down, it always seemed like it would be less wear and tear on the battery and starter when you go back to start it up again.

Like I've seen in other posts... Make sure you J Brake is off and let the truck coast for a distance and it will drop fast.

I life right off the highway... So the last mile home I shut down the jake and coast to my turn and pull up in to the yard and pause for a moment and get my stuff together to take it the house then I shut it down...

So far I notice I can hop out and open the hood and almost put my hand on the exhaust side of the turbo... Still hot but not really HOT!

Still have no gauge yet... Key word YET!

I also use the coasting technique for the last 100 yds or so, and turn off A/C. If I have been pushing hard and EGT's are high - I find 1st gear at about 20 mph with some back pressure pulls temps down to 325*+/- and than idle from there.
Maybe this procedure only works on automatics but I can't see why that would be true?

Because when you like the throttle go to idle the injector pump stops. So basically when your rolling and go you foot off the throttle there is NO FUEL FLOW in the pump. Since this is occuring there is no FIRE in the cylinder and just pumping air through the exhaust! So now we all know why the cool down...

Think I follow what you said...than why faster cooldown in first w/ no throttle than in neutral with no throttle?

When your rolling and relase the pedal the is zero fuel flow going to the engine.

When your idling there is a small flow of fuel running (of course) to keep it idling if the fuel were to shut off the motor would die.

So you can cool a engine/turbo quick if decelerating from 55-65 MPH and using you gears to slow down without your jake brake on.

Usually for 4.10 gears you can back shift at about 1500 RPM and it will kick it back up to 2300 RPM and allow it to decelerate.
