Will I be allright to still drive

Hello there I was going down the highway In my truck (a 98 2500 2 wheel drive standard) and out of the blue all of a sudden no accelaration no unusual noises or anything. Just as if someone slipped an auto into neutral while driving. pulled to the side of the road and quickly checked things out didnt realy find anything, so I got back in and tried to roll forward and all gears worked accept fith. First off just wondering if I will be all right to use it as is for a wee bit Got to get to work some how. And secondly what do you think the fix would be Hopefully not to costly)
Anyway thanks in advance everyone.

I'm not a 2nd Gen guy, but if your running a NV4500 5spd manual tranny it would seem that your 5th gear nut has come loose.

Not sure if you can, or should, keep driving it with the 5th gear nut backed off and the bear loose on the shaft. You might cause more damage? Do some research in the 2nd gen area, using the "search" function. Might come across the info you need.

If it is indeed the infamous 5th gear nut, then your going to need a rebuild. Or a replacement with the upgraded parts. Not going to be cheap. If you can rebuild the tranny yourself you might do it for around $1000. But to pay a shop to do it, re/re and all that, your probably looking at $2500?

Good luck.

When I lost 5th gear I drove for about 1200 miles until I had the chance to fix it.
I used the only real permanent fix here> http://quad4x4.com/NV4500%205th%20Ge...0Solutions.htm
