I need a new ECM. Have done some research, but want to see if anyone has specific experience with one company or the other.
Auto Computer Exchange = $800, reman, 1 yr warranty.
I have read about several people on this board using them, with mixed results. Most accounts were second or third hand. Everything I read on online reviews says the company is a scam and sells junk parts.
NAPA = $300 or 400, reman, 1 year warranty
Not really sure how this works. The guy was checking it out. Either I send mine in or it's just a conventional core charge.
Dealer = $1850, reman, 1 year warranty
Called two dealers, both had almost exact same pricing. Add $200 for labor and a reflash.
Cummins dealer = $1402, reman, 1 year warranty
I'm leaning towards the NAPA part and then have the dealer reflash it. Should put me at $500-600 total.

If you go to the dealer for a reflash get it in writing that they guaranty a working unit when done. Mine, in Athens , TX, fried mine and wouldn't stand behind it. Auto Computer exchange sent me one that didn't work my dash, but they did give me a prompt refund. Finally got one from a running truck, had a private shop check it out and I'm up and running again. The dealer's prices are pure theft.
Funny that you say to get it in writing. I went to pick up my truck tonight after the dealer did diagnostics. I figured worse case that I would have to unhook the battery cables to get it to run right.
The service writer went to go pull my truck around and came back to say "something is wrong". As soon as the truck started, it went straight to 3000 RPM. Ended up that's how the tech left it after his diagnostics. Said that the ECM really messed up when he was working on it.
I pulled the battery cables and got it back to an idle. Still couldn't get it drivable, but a lot better than I found it.
Calling NAPA tomorrow to order, we'll see how it works out.

NAPA didn't pan out. Ended up being the PCM on firewall. Rockauto was the same way. Sure seems like it was the right part, but no.
St Joe Diesel works with a reman company in Florida. Said they have done about 12 of them with no issues. They want $1200 plus shipping. Truck will be down for a week or two, oh well, saves a little cash I guess.
