fuel filter specifics

Hello, I notice Geno's has 2 filter styles.
One does 7 micron and one does 10.
Am I correct that 7 micron is recommended by Cummins?
Here's the part # FS19800E for $14.95.
At what mileage do you guys recommend changing these, same as the manual or more frequently?
My truck is having the pump retrofit done today so I wanna be sure the filters always clean.

thnx

15,000 miles should be the max for a fuel filter. The 7 micron filter is the newest version for the 2006 trucks.

Picked up truck just now, has retrofit pump in tank.
Invoice says they flashed ECM as well. What's that do?

On a side note, dealer cost was $57 for fuel filter, just now ordered through Geno's for $14.

thanks to all

I usually swap mine at 10K (ever two oil changes for me)

You technically don't need the 7 micron, but why not, huh? I had an extra 10 micro in the toolbox from my old truck, I went ahead and ordered two new oil's and one fuel anyway (you are correct, Geno's is the SPOT for fleetguard)
Dealer fluid and filter prices aren't even funny, they should be ashamed of themselves, (seriously).

$57!! I just bought one today (7 micron) for $23.95 from dealer. The receipt shows a list price of $25.50. You better ask your dealer if their price includes vaseline!

I have seen them over $50 at two different Dodge Dealers, (in two states).

Not saying you didn't get it cheaper, but the $57.00 price is very much a common price they charge.

Anyone not shopping at Genos for filters is paying too much...... Period

I paid $11.00 for the fs19800e, I also have the 2 mcron filter kit on my truck and just bought 4, ff5320 2 micron filters for $10.00 each from my local Cummins shop. Just food for thought. It is also a good way to develope a relationship with the parts dept. I'm not saying anything bad about Geno's, if you have to, or prefer to order off line they ARE the people to deal with.

What would the vaseline be for, to coat the gasket?

I am looking for a local Cummins dealer but they seem to be few and far between in California. I'm gonna check the Cummins site for a "Dealer locator" button.

thanks all

tomm,

Where are you located in CA? There's a couple Cummins Dealers in SoCal that I'm aware of: one in the Riverside area and another in Orange County somewhere. They're both listed of the Cummins site.

It doesn't sound like you are getting any vaseline. You're probably only going to get sand with the screwjob and price! I just went thru the same thing with my 2006; and decided, once shame on them, twice shame on me!
