Who has had t-case problems??

Who has had t-case problems??
Looking at buying a 2001, and he said the t-case needs to be rebuilt. He Sao it makes a grinding noise. Are these things as expensive as tranny's to rebuild?? Could it be anything else? Any help is awesome. Thanks.
