Smile Wheel Bearings

Does anyone know of an aftermarket wheel bearing that I can replace my factory ones with?

Timken is the only brand to use. It's probably the only brand you will be able to find at any reputable shop.

Wheel Bearings

Mine went out this morning, again, this is the second set in 6 months. So I need to get a replacement that is going to last.

Get a hold of Dan at www.quad4x4.com and let him know your problem, he can usually figure it out and get you set up with the right parts.

Something is not right. Did you replace all the races with new ones? Did you over tighten or improperly grease? I'm not questioning your ability, but 6 months on a set of bearings is not the bearing's fault. Has to be installation? I've done my share and goofed some up too.

Just trying to help you avoid a breakdown, not trying to start a war.

Did you ask the place where you bought them if they have a warranty? I know some places carry them. If nothing else maybe you could get your money back.

All that is why I suggested Dan at Quad, he will take the time to talk to you and figure out what happened. He even has a video that takes you step by step through the process and shows each detail just to make sure your not doing anything wrong. I have tested his patience in the past and he has always got me through it.

Wink Bearings

As far as I could tell I did everything right, I replaced both at the same time and I have not had a problem with the driver side. What I was told on the quad4x4 site was that the bearings you buy at Autozone, Orielly etc.. is that these are a cheaper made bearing that have a different seal material, that has in the past failed and caused the grease to run out (which is what happened to mine). The other thing is that their bearing comes with detailed instructions on what and how to install them. So we'll see. What I also learned is that the aftermarkets you buy at the discount parts houses are not available with the ABS sensor. You are exactly right, that bearing should last at a minimum 100k miles. Hopefully this will cure my problem.

Thumbs up Bearing

Well, I replaced my wheel bearing with the new one from quad4x4 (great place to do business, very helpful knows their stuff) The old bearing apperently lost a seal and siezed. It was complete, didn't come apart, but was siezed up tight. The new one went on with out too much problem, except for the dang spacer and brake shield (whoever desingned this is killing me!) But she's all back together now, so we'll see. I will be doing the other side next year, when I originally replaced this one I did it also, and with the front end jacked up you could tell a lot of difference in the two.
Thanks for the help,
Earl
