Try not plugging it in and see how long it takes to turn off.
Most of the mornings, mine stays on for about 5 seconds, plugged in.
There have been a couple where it has been on for 15 seconds plugged in.
After work, sitting in the parking lot for 10 hours, it stays on for as long as 30 seconds+.

I think it is interesting to note that on my 04 it didn't have the block heater cord (Optional) and the marketing branch of DC said it's cold starting capabilities are down to -20.
BUT in the owners manual it states that the block heater is required if you are using 15/40W oil at anthing below zero and recommended if you are using synthetic to -15 and then required for synthetic after that.
That and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.
