What EGT's are you seeing

Hi there folks, I am just wondering what EGTs y'all are seeing with stock to mild tuned trucks. Just to give me a good idea if mine are in appropriate range daily driving unhooked. So if there is an issue I can zero in on it.

hauling 600lbs in the bed. I got the temps to 950. with a 7x14 cargo trailer I saw just over 1000 up hills driving hard.I was trying to see how high it would go.. but never saw much over 1000.

for what its worth

Based upon whats in my Sig,

I see...unloaded around town 550-650 at freeway speeds 600-800 uphills 900-1200 untill I take it out of overdrive and then 900-1050

that is with the edge @ 5x5 5x4....I can hit 1500 easy if I wanted going uphill but I take my foot out of it way before that ever happens.

Towing my boat (7000) same conditions temps are...600-700, 700-900 and easy to hit 1100 uphill

that is with the box on 3x3, 2x1, 1x1 I usually tow on 3x3

interesting as you can tell in my sig, I just feel as if mine are higher than they should be averaging 900 now with that being said its not high way nor towing so for some odd reason they just seem to be higher than they should be granted i have never seen past 1200 but i also have no trouble hitting 900-1000 unhooked at a 6% grade, what are your thoughts

only time you have to worry is if you exceed the max(1350F) as grade/load/gearing/headwinds all effect your egts.

if your seeing higher than normal temps, check air filter and let us know what your seeing for boost

The filter is nearly new and my boost numbers are good my guage is telling me that im hitting 30 psi no problem.... the filter has been exposed to very little dust and dirt because of the time of year here in PA farily damp so I would like to say I can rule that out.

just went back and looked at your sig, you have large tires that will add to your egt, especially until you get rolling and ease off the throttle as the load comes off the truck.
also around town will be higher, take it out on the hiway at hiway speeds (no head wind/ no hills) to get a baseline, crusing along at 60-70mph should be in the 600-800 range, and more likely closer to 600

where is your EGT thermocoupler (sp??) installed...(the probe)

Pre turbo (exhaust manifold) or Post turbo (exhaust down pipe)

that will make a big difference.

NCA

PS...you also list "go box" in your sig...please explain that..do you mean go box tranny or go box CHIP....reason I ask is because as you can see I am mildly modded with a Edge Comp box and 100 hp injectors...you dont even have injectors and if you dont mean "go box" chip your basicly stock...so there is no way you should see 900 degree egs just around town..IMO

While I do agree with the bold portion of your response...

As you can see I run MUCH bigger tires than him and I am MUCH lower in my EGT's than him

The "go-box" is just a slang term i use for manual trans. Sorry for the confusion. But my probe is Pre-turbo.. Is it possible that the gauge or the turbo is going bad

Whats your Boost numbers???

Is that Banks WG on its way out???

You have no upgrade to the injectors and no chip or programmer, only slightly larger tires.....you should not be running that hot.

I really dont know what to tell ya..other than maybe that Banks stuff is restricting flow...To much fuel with not enough air moving out.. but your stock fueling so????

I the highest boost I have seen is 30 psi it might go more but im no dummy and it hasn't seen that 30 psi very often. Other than that it seems to run great. I dont know what to think either so now im afraid to upgrade to injectors or something now.

well, the best I can come up with, with my limited knowledge is...

1. Your running too rich...more fuel is going in and not enough air. How clean is you air filter, check all intake gaskets (maybe a boost leak) and check that waste gate to make sure it is functioning correctly.

2. Your VP is acting up. (unlikely because I have never heard of a VP out putting to much fuel without a chip being added)

3. Your "lugging" the motor, driving in the wrong gear..but I assume your driving it correctly, most of us know how to drive a stick and I figure you do to. Make sure your in the correct gear for the driving conditions. If your to tall (5th gear) and you dont need to be, that will cause higher than average EGT's.

4. Test the egt guage/probe....pull out the probe and hold it with a meet theromo..hit both with a blow torch and see if they register the same temp.

Sorry but other than those items...I am lost.
