Question water in the rear end???

I got talking with a local farm guy about our trucks and we got to discussing running through the creek beds. I ran through about a 100 feet of hard creek bed with water about 2 feet deep and never thought about water getting in the rear end vent. It never came in the cab even though it was above the bottom of the doors.

Is this possible?? Obviously it wouldn't be good for the gears.

He changes his fluids once a year in the fall. Says he has gotten water out several times. I thought these vents were a sintered bronze and were made to prevent water getting in.

I've got about 15,000 miles since I ran through the creek and since have run through some real deep rain puddles. The brakes got a little sensitive for a while but that's all. I haven't changed the rear end fluid so maybe it's time..Hopefully not too late.

watta y'all think.

Take the plug out and see if you see water droplets on it. If you do change the fluid. Its easy to do and it should be done anyway since you do alot of off roading.

Fluid gets all milky as the water gets churned up. Should be easy to tell.
