Question Water in Fuel

Last night my roommate and I decided to head to the hills north west of DC to find some decent snow to play in. While out there the "Water in Fuel" light came on. First time its done that for me and I had to actually look in the manual to figure out where the hell the release valve was (I know I know, I should know my truck better then that). I did that, the light went out, and down the road we went again with no more trouble. Well, this morning on the way into work it went on again! Went through the same thing I did last night and the light went away and I was on the road again. I am not thinking that I should have seen that light twice in so short a time. I have just filled the tank yesterday, been using the gas station for a while and never had a problem with there fuel as of yet. So I guess these are my questions. 1) How fast should I be hittin the breaks and getting to the side of the road when that light comes on? (Last night I swore for a bit and made the next exit on the HWY I was on) 2) Is this a sign of something bigger? 3) Have I been doing something wrong up till now to get this light like this?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Could be crud at the bottom of the filter that gets moved around and shorts across the sensor. I'd remove the sensor and clean it.
You should also check if it is in fact water by draining into a glass container.
