Wastegate? turbo mods.... Questions

Hi everyone....

Can someone explain to me about the wastegate? What it is and what alot of you tend to do as far as removing/modifying it on your ctd's?

also, I hear of people removing some type of "ring" on their turbos that makes it spool louder I guess? what are thebenefits to these if any? thanks for the help guys...

Not a lot you can do to your 'hard line' wastegate. How they work? .... read Here or Here

Silencer Ring is in the turbo intake 'throat'. No performance improvements by removing it but many members like the additional turbo 'whine' they get!

TST sells a turnbuckle that adds some adjustability to it.
Do a search on 'turnbuckle'.
You won't gain anything by running that turbo above 35 psi. Well, you will but it will be hot air, then a new turbo!!!

Mine is turnbuckled, with the Juice on its highest setting the most I've seen is 32psi.

The purpose of the wastegate is to limit the max boost pressure. When the set max boost level is reached a spring is overcome and a door is opened that lets the exhaust gasses bypass the turbo, thus no more increase boost pressure.

Installing a turnbuckle or "j hook" prevents the wastegate from opening thus allowing the turbo to build more pressure. More boost = more power. To a certain point anyway after that the air coming out of the turbo is so hot it loses its efficeny.
