Wastegate Actuator

Is it possible to rebuild the Wastegate actuator on an HX35? If not, is it possible to purchase a new actuator and where? thanks guys for your help. Mine is not working properly and I will be towing here shortly and I don't want to keep the plug in to block the wastegate all together and push the turbo past 35psi.....

I doubt its rebuildable, but if you want to have the gate work again you can get a very heavy spring and a turnbuckle and preload/adjust it so that it will open. it will take a little experimenting to get it to open where you want....

actually with the line off of the wastegate it should open around 22-28 anyway as exhaust pressure will overcome the wastegate(actuator spring)

how much boost are you seeing now?
and do you have the restricted fitting in there now (boost elbow)?

I had a boost elbow in there and I was only seeing at a max 20psi of boost at WOT. I tried to screw in the adjuster on the elbow with no luck. I posted here and someone suggested to take the elbow out and just put a 1/8" plug in. I did that and now I am seeing up to 35psi at WOT. I don't want to have to jockey with the throttle too much so I was wanting to get the actuator fixed so that I don't have to worry about it.

whats wrong with 20psi? that would be factory settings anyway. I dont understand how you can hit 35 with just the wastegate line capped off. as the exhaust gasses will blow the gate open, even at 35psi your gonna be OK,35 is the max effeciency of the hx but many people push the stock turbo well past this limit. The extra air will help keep the EGT's under control, I have had 3 different turbos on my truck and on every one I had to lockwire the wastedgate shut inorder to exceed 20psi at WOT, and that even with the fuel in my sig!

if you exceed 35psi that is getting past the efficiency...so there is no point in going past 35 psi. With what I have in my sig and the plug in the turbo I can easily get to 35psi with a stab of the go pedal. You are right the more psi the better the EGT's, but if you are past the efficiency then you are no longer helping anything if I understand correctly. I just don't want to grenade my stock turbo since I am in no place to be replacing it.

are you sure your boost gauge is accurate, I have double what you do in power mods and I'm hard pressed to hit 38psi...

if a he351 uses the same wastegate I have a spare if you want it

I have the wastegate on my PDR35 locked closed and no matter how hard or heavy I hammer on it, I can't get over 34 psi. Granted I have a slightly bigger housing (14cm) so I do get a little more flow with a little less psi but 34 is all she wrote.

When I ran the stock HX using the EZ boost elbow and a normal functioning wastegate, 32 psi was all I could get out of it again no matter how I drove it.

New wastegate actuator kits are available from Dodge and Cummins but I picked up mine from www.bd-power.com . I think they advertise here, and their stuff may even be available in the DTR store.

I appreciate all of the information. I will give it the gusto again and see if I can get to 35. I glance over so I don't take my eyes off the road. Not 100% on the 35. However, for 150 for a new one, I think I can keep my foot out of it when hauling if I need to.

can you set the quadzille to limit the boost??

I have disabled my waster gate..plug the input to the actuator..and all I can get is 22psi boost..I think my truck is mostly stock.

just wondering..if I knew my tranny would take the extra power I love to add a power mod setup..a modest one say 350hp and 700ftlb

As an update...I put the pedal down last night and the closest I got was 28psi. So I am good to go I guess. Just a bit over overcautious. I guess I will let it eat till I can get another turbo and more power. Thanks for the help everyone.

This is the xzt+ not the quadzillerator. I have a toggle switch and that is all to control the power.
