VP44 swap?
VP44 swap?
Ok folks, my father-in-law has a few 98.5 24valvers that he runs in his business! They were all bought from the same dealership at the same time and are identical. About one year ago one of the trucks swallowed part of a broken injector and trashed a piston/cylinder. Now the injection pump on another truck has gone T/U. Is it possible to remove the injection pump from the truck with the piston damage and install it on the other truck? The reason I am asking is that both a mechanic and a pump shop are telling him that this is impossible to do and that they are all "keyed differently". Surely there is a way to time and key this pump to the other truck, I see used VP44`s for sale so there must be some way to do it, right! Anyone got the lowdown or a good link? Sorry for the lack of knowledge, I have an old 12valver myself! Thanks for any help!
AFAIK and as far as I read the service manual you'll only need to recover the key from the donor engine too. (The key that holds the inj. pump shaft in the right position).- the key has a number on, must be the same as on the inj. pump shaft.
If the trucks are the same model engine wise there shouldn't be a problem.

Thanx for the info! I found a good thread a while back with the changeout instructions, can`t seem to find it now. Maybe a Lost cause anyway, he won`t believe me that it can be done so he is about to order a new$$$$$$ pump! SOLD!
