VP44 repayment from Chrysler

Posted a while back on my vp44 being replaced. Tried to fight with the dealership with no luck. First posted in this thread- https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ight=dead+vp44 .

I just got off the phone with Chrysler and they are sending my money back minus the 100 deductible. I cant thank this forum enough and especially Thomas for his documentation. If it weren't for this forum I would not have known about the wording in the warranty book (or even looked there most likely). The rep from Chrysler said there is no dispute becuase it is stated in black and white right in their own book.

Thomas if you are out there, thank you so much!!!. Thank everyone else who offered support as well.
Terry

After the stonewalling I got from DaimlerChrysler Customer Service I was very motivated to spend time writing my warranty post on that other site.

Hearing from others that have managed to have D/C stand up to their promise made in the Warranty Information Booklet is plenty of thanks.

Congratulations!

Anyone know how many people have succeeded now with this 8 yr warranty approach?

Hey Terry,
What's the issue with the $100 deductible? I'm still within the 8yr 136,000 mile timeframe and I don't see any mention of a deductible for 2001. Was that unique to your case?

Thanks,
John

They (Chrysler) told me over the phone that there would be 100 deducible. I was just so happy that I was getting 2200.00 back that I did not argue one bit.

Thanks Terry, picking up my IP on Monday. I wonder if I should call Chrysler before or after I install the pump?

Pretty sure work must be performed at the dealer or an authorized Cummins repair facility for the reimbursement. I dont know for sure, but you may want to check. I had mine done at the dealer so I would have the problem and repair all documented. Since I had all the ammo from Thomas to begin with.

John, when the dealer refused warranty on my VP44, I started an email string with DC customer service and informed them that I was going to replace it myself and then make a claim against the warranty. They did not advise me to take it back to the dealer. I wrote two different demand letters and I am currently working with the Washington State Attorney Generals office on a complaint against Chrysler. I will check with the AG again on Monday. My claim is for 1046.00 for the VP44 from MWFI. I would also take 946.00 without complaining too much. SNOKING

Thanks Snoking. I wanted to replace it myself also just to get the truck up and running again - no truck for a week now. Dodge dealer never got further than saying it may need one once they replaced the lift pump. So my alternative is to have it towed to a dealer again and get it diagnosed that the vp44 is bad now. I would guess that I'd have to take it to a different dealer this time, or they'll tell me I have to install the newer style in-tank lift pump that caused the whole thing and I'd be out $1k for that alone.

I have sent an email to Clarence Ditlow who is head of the Center for Auto Safety. He has been very helpful to me in the past on several occasions though I'm not sure honoring warranties is exactly up their alley. Still, we'll see. I probably will make a pre-emptive call to DC National tomorrow morning. Just curious, but who did you send the demand letters to? Wow, that's a really good price on the vp44.
regards,
john

What if the Dealer refuses warranty on the VP repair, when in fact they should not have due to the 8 year warranty, and you are forced to fix it yourself? Seems like DC should be liable for providing misleading info?

I have been working that angle for 6 months, and hoping for a break through soon. As, I filed a complaint with the Washington State AG office. SNOKING
