VP44 early warning light operation

I have the BD diesel early warning light installed and I think it is working as it should. I did a VP44 and fass 150/95, + FP gauge.

When I turn the key (but not bump starter) the EW red light is on and the fass runs and gauge shoots to 10 or 12 psi, then drops to 0. when I hit the starter it starts well and is steady FP at 15-16 psi (with the EW light off).

As soon as I turn off the truck the pressure drops to 0 (elec. FP gauge), and the EW lightcomes on until the key is back/out.

I would think with an elec. FP gauge (wired thru ign) it would not read anything with ign off but if the EW sensor is set to trip at 5psi I must be loosing all prime/pressure when I turn the truck off?

I left it overnight for apx 11 hours, and it started fine, seems like theres no leaks and not introducing air anywhere.

Its new to me and I am a little paranoid, but I think its a success (except boost gauge)
Would this discribe proper operation, or should I maintain a small system pressure when the truck is off.

Those who have these VP44 early warning lights installed do you see this light at every start and shut down?

You're only going to have pressure as long as the pump is running. There is no check valve that keeps pressure in the system.

You would only have cause to worry if the system was draining partially or completely out, where you don't have any pressure when the pump first kicks in. In that case, you would need to look for a leak to make sure the lines stay full (just not under pressure).

the light comes on when the pressure is below 5 psi and the key is on, if your light is on after you turn the key off, it's wired wrong

The pressure falls to nothing when the FASS stops running. The VP44 is not going to sit there with 15psi in it over night. Mine operates exactly as you describe. Turn key off, FP drops to 0, mechanical gauge at VP inlet.

Thanks for the replys. ^thats what I got.

I think its wired right, when the key is all the way off (or able to pull out) the light is off. but when I turn the running engine off, but dont turn the key to the full off/out position, the light is on.

Sounds like it's wired to the "Accessory" posn rather than the "ignition" posn. It just needs a different pwr source from the IGN.

Sounds like it is wired correctly to me, as stated earlier once the LP stops running, the pressure will drop off. There is still going to be fuel in the lines (hopefully, as long as everything is working the way it should) it's just the fuel isn't under any sort of pressure.

If you really wanted to you could wire the light in so that once the truck is actually running, the light functions / as soon as you shut the truck off the light goes off. But really I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it goes off when you pull the key out, all is good IMO.

Yep put about 100km on it today and a few off and on's, seems to be good.
Im leaving it outside for the first time in 3-4 months. Heres hoping, and its got a load to the bottle depot and 2 to the dump, and then a hay bale. Gotta make up for all the down time lol.

As it is a farm truck I might wire the IGN side of all gauges and EW light thru a switch so I could save them the start and stop of fencing, and other chores.

Also for another thread but I need to disable the auto door lock feature. It drives me nuts, I go ten feet stop, need something from passenger side and its locked. of course my keys are inside the IGN. it keeps remembering to lock me in but I never remember to unlock the passenger side.
