VP44 is bad, need recommendations

Looks like my VP44 is bad. I'm trying to figure out what to get to replace it with. I've read about the one from Blue Chip. I've read good things about these. However for $600 less I can get one from usdieselparts.com and put the savings toward a FASS or at least a better aftermarket lift pump. Any recommendations for a replacement VP44?

There is one on e-bay for 950 and Pensacola Diesel sells IP and LP for slightly over 1 grand. You get the same pump no matter who sells. Try and stay away from black ones and ones with CHEZ stamped on them. Oh yes, some supposedlly have extra special parts installed but still perform the same and have the same or less warranty.

I'm liking that IP/AirDog combo from Pensacola Diesel.

Also the mechanic that looked at it for me as a side job said the replacement would need to be done in the shop and was a 9 or 10 hour job. Based on what I'm reading on this forum that sounds high.

Well the pump is a easy three hour job if have done a couple before so you know the ropes. The lift pump if goes back in orginal place is a easy 1/2 hour job. So I guess triple time is to pay overhead. Ha!

What tools are required to do the job or replacing both pumps?

Joe

I just did my 1st VP44 and it took 4-5 hrs tops. This is not overly complicated if you are pretty good at wrenching.

So what is wrong with the black ones or the ones that have CHEZ stamped on them?
