Which VP44?

I have been having problems with stock vp after installation of new fass ddrp. Truck will not start with pressure from lp against vp44. I wired in a switch with solenoid to manually turn off ddrp so truck would start, after startup switch ddrp on again and truck runs fine. That was mid winter last year, this summer no problems, but when weather turned cold, the truck does not like to start after sitting overnight. I am sure it is the vp giving me problems, the fuel mileage is way down from when it was new, approx. 5 mpg, both city and hwy. There appear to be several options for new replacements, is Blue Chip the way to go or is there another one that has good reviews?
I have to add that Chip at Blue Chip, answered several questions, always returned my calls and was very helpful. It was much appreciated.

If someone has a product they like I would like to hear about it. Thanks.

I thought Blue Chip was too expensive & went with MWFI. Send a PM if you want the vendor. Do you have any codes?

Blue Chip is expensive but the customer service and the warranty support after purchase is worth it. Not saying other companies won't stand behind their product but Chip certainly does!

MWFI stands behind their pumps. Any vendor that keeps them in stock can have another in your hands as quick as Blue Chip.

Blue Chip charges a $600 premium for their stock pump that is difficult to justify. There is no documentation that the pump lasts longer than any other quality builder's.

Chip does have some good information on his site. That said, a friend of mine points out that information is like sex. Once you give it away, you can't charge for it.

The price difference between Blue Chip & others will buy an AirDog and at least the important part of the gauge set (ie fuel pressure). Your $$, your choice.

Edit: Chip sells a gear puller for $50. A regular ole (free) steering wheel puller borrowed from the chain store does the job just fine and doesn't clutter your tool box. Save your $$ unless you plan on a lot of VP installs.

You can search on VP44 and read for a long time. Blue Chip has about the best reputation from what I have read. They say they do change the computer, where the others seem to just test to see if the old one works. Blue Chip will also send you the tool at no charge to use & return, at least, they use to. Numerous people have tried various VP's and many go to Blue Chip after the 2nd or 3rd goes South.
You can read the 1000 or so VP posts, but I think that nets it out. I think I have read about 1 Blue Chip failure, there may be more.
We on Gen 2 are always interested on who has the best rebuilt VP, as we will all need one, sooner or later.
I have a replacement pump put on by the dealer, just out of warranty. Dodge Customer Service helped me out to get it installed for $500. They paid the pump, not bad. Hope to get at least 100k out of this one, but only time will tell.

Anytime you can get Dodge to pay for their crappy design, all the better. VP install is 4 hrs - not anything more. At $500, you paid $125/hr. Many will be happy to install at that price especially since you chose the part and installer wouldn't have to warranty anything but the labor.

I put a MWFI on my truck this fall and have been happy so far but my mileage has slipped from 21 to 19. Before I chose them I called and they told me that they also put new electronics on all thier pumps.

Blue chip yes I chose them, x pump can't get any mpg out of it ,but it starts every day and gets me/and family where I need to go. It depends on how long you are going to keep truck and how you feel about having someone else changing out a pump in a short time(maybe you)....Nate

Just be absolutely sure it's the pump and not the ddrp or a mistake you may have made. It's a lot of cash!

I call bull s ****. Blue Chip only has a 1 yr warranty the same as the others. I saw 1 post where the poster said he had a 3yr warranty but he didn't reveal his source. Fuel supposedly helps keep a pump AND there are plenty of posts where people running FASS, AirDog, Raptor, in-tank replacements, DDRPs, aftermarket mechanical pumps etc. have lost VPs. Since keeping the VP healthy is an apparent crap shoot, I chose supposed (expected) quality (MWFI) at a price negotiated to under $1,000. If anyone has a better deal please supply the info.

So if your MWFI pump fails after a year how likely are you to get any warranty help from them? I had a pump warrantied by Chip that I had run out of fuel. All I had to do was tell him what happened and he sent another pump and warrantied mine, no hassles, no issues. I read alot of horror stories of certain other vendors denying warranty, claiming contaminated fuel or whatever they could get away with and not one issue with the vendor I chose to go with.

At Chip's prices, you paid for more than 60% of the replacement pump. It looks like he expects at least 40% of the drivers know that the trucks need fuel and stop to fill up before running out. I'm not knocking his product, only his price.

I would have filled it but the fuel level sender stuck! I don't care what a VP costs, it's still cheaper than a set of injectors for that useless '06 I used to have.

Appreciate the input. Has anyone heard of Industrial Injection? I would like to know if anyone is running a modified pump for more hp or fuel mileage, and is it worth the extra dough? (which is hard to come by right now)
