Vp44
Well i just had my vp installed three weeks ago to this last friday. Well monday night it said a few choice words and threw up a p0252 code. Great is what i said now i have to replace the sob again
! I called who i got it threw and they are going to cover the shipping there and back and fix the problem and get me a new one. Thanks John. But it only lasted three weeks with an airdog and and not working it hard been using the wife civic most of the time 40mpg is better than 25 on the highway and 20 around town.

ok, you're going to laugh at this.
I put a VP on my truck last june, it lasted 512 miles.... yup 512. so I put another one on. it lasted from last july, til june 15th this year.
My truck is now on VP #6.
I no longer measure my fuel economy in miles per gallon, I measure it in gallons per injection pump.

Worked for me on a fuel pump and a steering rack on my 325i, fuel pump "refailed" 3 months later, and my steering rack failed again after 13 months - the dealer was quite kind and covered the part ($850) but not labor ($300).

I do the work myself. I am a mobile heavy equipment mechanic.
As far as the warranty. the last couple pumps came from the same place, and they have been excellent as far as warranty replacement.
I have changed out 70 VP pumps on ISB engines. the bulk of my pumps come from the same supplier that rebuilds the ones on my truck. Funny thing is, the last two were the only ones I have ever had trouble with from that supplier. Which is fine, rather my truck, than a customer unit.
Prior to the last two. 10 stock LP's and 3 VP pumps while under warranty. then, pump #4 from my supplier. Lasted 512 miles. Put pump #5 on under warranty replacement. It never ran right from day one, timing was really flat, dead pedal issues now and again. Never threw a code though. Documented everything with the supplier. March, it started giving hard hot starts, so I carried a water bottle with me. Managed to limp it til june 15th, when it failed. They shipped me a new one right away, I stuck it on the truck, the timing is back where it should be, no more dead pedal, no more hard starts, pulls like a locomotive again.
We'll see how long this one lasts, hopefully more than a year.

man 6 vps and 10lps, my truck would be gone, something aint right with that. hope those last.

For the cost of those pumps, you could have bought a newer engine w/o a vp44 with all the necessary trimmings to install. I'm on my replacement pump and I bought a fass to go with it. Waiting for the temp to go below 110 before I install it though. If this pump goes, I'll part out the truck and make an herb garden out of the 53 block..

Keep me in mind when you start tearin' parts off. Mine's a 98.5, could use some off those hot rod parts

Keeping in mind, that only one of the 6 pumps has actually cost me the price of a pump. I think I have done reasonably well. Other than becoming really REALLY good at changing them.
As far as getting something newer. I bought the truck new in 01. It proved to me that something new, doesn't mean something good. Also, with the local dealer's lack of service, I won't be buying another new chrysler anything.
I seem to get the best of the worst in the VP's, but thats ok, because in reality, the truck has worked every day of its life, in temps from +50 to -65C, through rain, mud, sleet and snow. Probably more reliable than the postal service, and better than 350% more reliable than my 97 jokestroke service truck that I had prior to this one.
Like I said before, hopefully this is the last VP I put in this truck.

I always find it halarious that a stock LP and IP can go 100,000+ miles, even 200,000+ miles, but as soon as someone touches it or replaces it themselves, they barely last 10,000 miles therafter.
I say its alot more than a coincidence and there is definitely something missing in the installation procedures that increases the life\prevents damage.

ok, so my stock lp lasted almost 10,000 km, and my stock vp lasted for just over 50,000
The dealer installed the first two vp's. NO better luck than installing them myself.
Also, with the number I've done, vs the amount of failures. you tell me what I'm missing. In fact, why don't you come on over and show me what I'm missing, because I'm getting tired of it too.
