VP installed!

Wow! what a difference. Installed a SO pump on my HO, and man does she run sweet now. It idles so smooth (my tach doesn't jump around anymore), runs up thru the rpms smooth, my dead spot between 1900-2200rpms is gone, and when letting the clutch out in second without giving it throttle, it doesn't fall on its face anymore. It doesn't seem to have quite the bottom end it did before, but I was expecting that going with the SO. Wish I wouldn't have dropped the key in the timing housing the first time I tryed putting the pump on, had to rip everything apart up front and take the front cover off to get it. I will say, it was a pretty fun project though

Congrats on the new VP!! I remember back in the day when almost everyone told me it couldn't be done... I'm still very happy with the results...

Good info

I have been considering putting a SO pump on mine since my N.O.S. HO pump is not running too good. Is the top end better? At what rpm does it come in?

It allows you to run larger injectors and get more out of off the shelf performance boxes... So you really feel it throughout the RPMs... but just to swap stock HO for stock SO you will notice a loss in low end power but pick up some in on the top

yeah, I'll agree with that. I havn't really wound it up hard yet as I wasn't sure if you need to go thru some sort of break in period for a new pump or not. But so far, I have noticed a loss in power going to the SO pump. I'll be glad I went with it though once I get a module and some new stix All in all, I thought it was pretty easy. Woulda been easier if I hadn't dropped the key in the timing case, but, oh well, now I know what my geartrain looks like

Hello.... just picked up a 2000 3500 Dually 2x4 auto with 161k on the clock... everything seems good except 2 things... I have that dead spot at around 60mph around 18-1900 rpm.... and real lack of power around there... But no codes... Have not checked fuel pressure yet... SO its seems like I will be replacing the VP pump soon (cash allowing) what is the deal with the SO versus the HO ? what about the aftermarket modified pumps? I am stock right now and want to build this truck to be a good daily driver with max fuel mileage(will be posting on another thread for help with that) some decent power but not at the sacrafice of MPG... Where is most economical place to get a rebuilt pump? any tricks or weird things to know about installing one? and 2nd question, when i start the truck cold it barely moves, then when it warms up it runs normal? My last truck was a 2001 SO 2wd auto and I never had that problem...thanks for the help, sorry about the long post....
Rick
