vp-44?
vp-44?
Time to go to the experts. Been having dead pedal symptons that got pretty bad. Truck would never die and always started right away. Installed F.A.S.S. fuel system with new fuel line all the way to the IP (no more banjo bolts). This improved the dead pedal a lot but did not eliminate it completely. Dropped the fuel tank to check for crud and possible blockage at the pick up. Everything looked good there. Nothing on the pick up screen at all and tank looks clean. Have not had any codes show up and no check engine light. Have already re-set Apps with no change. I have finally gotten gauges but not hooked up yet. Other than the intermitten dead pedal truck runs great. Any suggestions or am I looking at replacing the vp-44. Is there a better aftermarket solution? This is a work truck so I am not looking to mod it much. Used to pull 7,000# loaded trailer at times. Let me know if you want any other information I may have left out.
Sounds like the VP is taking a powder, all right.
The FASS or Walbro are both recommended highly on this site, the 95 gph flow FASS would be good enough for low mods, I am not sure about the Walbro specs...

The VP-44 doesn't always throw a code... It sounds like you have your bases covered and I'd concur with the assessment of a VP taking a dirt nap. I installed a FASS on my truck then checked my codes(should've done it in the reverse order) and had a P0216... truck was still running 13 months later but I knew it was on it's last legs. Drove one day, the next it barely started and was most certainly dead. I'm not sure how long you're willing to wait, but buying a spare VP would seem a little unreasonable as you'd have an $1100 paperweight. There are plenty of reputable rebuilders around... Industrial Injection, Blue Chip Diesel, Scheid Diesel...
The only way to eliminate the VP is to do a P-pump conversion...
