vibration at 65-75

I have a vibration at 65-75 or so. I took the truck in to get the tires rebalanced and they were pretty good but redone. The U joints all look tight and feel tight. What next? It is still under warranty. I have bigger tires but I dont think dodge will say anything about that. Help so I can tell dodge.

Re:vibration at 65-75

Does it seem to come from the front or rear, left or right???

If you can pinpoint from which end its coming from I would cross rotate the tires yourself and see if it changes, At the speed you are getting your vibration from is right when a tire will vibrate. And just because Dodge rebalanced them does not mean you dont still have a unbalanced tire or a bad tire.

Sometimes it is hard to tell if a vibration is in the rear so what I do is put something in the back of the truck that you can see vibrating in the rear view mirror...That wont blow out of course .

It can be hard to get someone to balance a tire properly they could have a machine problem or whatever. My last set of tires I had to take the truck back 3 times with 3 different people rebalanceing and it did get better each time but still vibrated @ 70, then ended up taking it somewere else

Anyway, In all my years in Automotive the only thing I have seen shake on a vehicle or vibrate @ 70 is tires. The sad thing is that if you told Dodge the complaint on the vibration and gave enough info the vehicle should have been test driven @ 70mph before and after the repair and not delivered untill its fixed...

But I would check it yourself, cross rotate them tires and see if the vibration moves. And if all else fails.....Take it and have someone else like a tire shop spin them on the balancer...

Take Care,
FreightTrain Wayneo

I had a vibration in my truck from @73mph and up. I had the D25 coils on my truck and found when I took them off and put the OEM coils back on the vibration went away.

I figured that the angle of the front driveshaft was to severe for the speed at which the front driveshaft was spinning hence causing the vibration.

Try this, take off the front driveshaft and see if you still have the vibration. If you don't then you have your source.

Remember the 02's don't have the axle disconnect and we are always spinning the front driveshaft.

-CM

Re:vibration at 65-75

Just the fact you have a vibration doesn't tell me much? Typically at those speeds, wheel balancing is the problem. Larger tires are more prone to get out of balance fast. You could have bad shocks, loose tie end rods, track bar problems, etc. Since you indicated your truck is still under warranty, I doubt you have mechanical problems. I would take the tires to a reputable tire shop, "watch them balance" the tires by removing any previous weights, and make sure it is Zero balanced. Take the best two balanced tires and put them in the front. Make sure the tires have equal tread and tire pressure. I've seen to many of these tire shops improperly balance tires, by inexperenced people. Larger tires take extra care and know how, not "just Close enough".

Re:vibration at 65-75

I took my tires to a shop that installed them. They took every tire and balanced them. The RR was off by 3 ounces. The rest were off by about 1 ounce. I am running 315's so they are a little larger. I do have a leveling kit in the front with a winch and winch bumper. It only sits maybe at the most 1 inch above stock. It has been doing it for awhile. I cant tell which side of the vehicle it is coming from or if from the front or back. It seems that on really smooth roads(new asphalt) it doesnt do it until I hit very slight bump. The shocks are only a year old but they are stock.

Did you ever find out what was causing the vibration at 65-75 mph. I have a 1999 with spacers in the front and 35" tires and I have the same problem.
