vibration in 4x4

good day boys and girls,
im going thru a bit of a problem with my 2000 4x4ctd and i need some advice. im the original owner of this vehicle and never had a problem with the driveline yet. the truck has 110 000 kms(68000 miles) .
it seems that when in 4x4 and at speeds above 50km(35miles/hr) the front end seems to have a mild to heavy vibration thru the wheel and cab. ive let it coast in neutral at those speeds and the vibration is still there.
what can it be?? any ideas?
could it be a u joint? transfer case?
also is it part of the drivetrain warrenty?

thanks in advance and Happy Holidays
Adam

Re:vibration in 4x4

Does it vibrate in 2whl drive or just 4x? Is it constant or does it come and go w/ speed changes or when accelerating?

Re:vibration in 4x4

You can tell if its the u-joint(s) by getting under the truck, and trying to shake each one by each front tire.If one, or both of them can be shook by hand, it very well may be the problem. I have already replaced one on my truck, and the other also need replacing. When mine is in 2wd you can still feel the vibration, because the u-joints at each wheel always spin when you are moving. It could also be something in the front driveshaft. Good luck finding the problem.

Adam, interesting problem. You said you feel it in the wheel. I doubt its tires, but you could always swap the fronts to back and give it a go. Stranger things have happened. How many miles on them, and current balance?

Any clicks or clunks heard?

What kind of shape are the front brakes in? A rotor warped?

Driveshaft lose its balance or get damaged in some way recently?

When its jacked up in the air for moving those tires around and inspecting the wheels, set the frame down on some blocks with the front wheels in the air and start giving everything a good shaking up front to see if anything is loose.

Happy Holidays to you too!
