very random engine hiccup

Got a question for yall. Over the past couple of months I've noticed a random engine hiccup. I notice this maybe about once every 1 or 2 weeks now.

I say its random because it doesn't just do it under certain conditions. Ive noticed it while idling (try not to let it idle for anymore than 5 mins.), while cruising at highway speeds, in stop and go traffic, and in normal city driving. The only time I've never noticed it is when the engine is cold.

I dont think its a lift pump because mine is not even a year old. The fuel filter is clean (change it almost every oil change).
Unfortunately I cant tell yall my fuel pressure because I dont have a gauge yet

I hope someone can give me an idea as to what this could be. Since its a random thing I cant really take it to the dealer because I doubt theyll be able to duplicate it.

Thanks in advance for any help
Jeff

I used to have that at idle when it was cold out. I assumed at the time and this proved to be true, that it was the injectors. When I changed injectors it went away. The engine ran great except for that once in a while miss at random. It would happen while I would be letting the turbo cool before shutting it down to unload after a pull loaded.

Didn't really consider an injector problem. Figured it was just the crappy 24 valve fuel system.

Is there an easy way to check the injectors? Im assuming that if one or more were bad they would be covered under the 7yr/100,00 warranty?

Thanks again

You could try this, but the engine has to be acting up for it ti work. Carefully, with the engine running, just crack loose one injector line for 1-3 seconds. If there is a change in the way the engine runs, that injector is fine. If there is no change, or very minor compared to the others, that is your suspect injector. Shut the engine off after you have done all 6. Swap the suspect injector with a good one from another cylinder, if the problem 'follows' to the good cylinder, that injector is bad. Restart the engine, and test the suspect injector in the new cylinder.if the problem stays in the original cylinder, you could have a pinched/clogged line or a problem with the IP.

I might try cracking the injectors to see if it makes a difference, however, Im really not sure how to swap them out

Will I only be able to tell a difference if the engine is acting up?

Would a dealer have some sort of tester to tell me if an injector is bad? (engine is stock so if I can make Dodge pay for it, I most def. will)

Some dealers, and most performance shops have a machine to test injectors. You would have to take them the injectors. What I showed in my last post, is how to check them yourself, without the expensive tools.

tried cracking each injector like you suggested but I really couldn't tell any difference.

got on the highway about an hour later it did it again though

I guess what I was really asking before was, is there a way for the dealer or a shop to check the injectors while they are in the engine?

thanks for the replys
