Valve rattle?

I have noticed an increasing amount of valve rattle in my truck. It seems to be more pronounced when cold. Sounds like a gasser with bad fuel. Its really noticeable when the tc locks up and she has a little load and starts to pull. I take it easy until she warms up, but I still hear it unless she has been driven for several miles. Do any of you guys experience the same thing? I just rolled over 36,000 on it and use the same fuel from the same station since it was new. I wouldnt think the valves would need adjusted this early or would they?

If you think the valves need adjusting then do it. I doubt that it is the problem. It sounds more like typical cold diesel rattle that goes away when warm. It is caused by solid fuel impinging on the piston and igniting on the next power stroke before the normal injection occurs causing a harsh rap.

Yeah.. I think your right... I noticed he is in Ohio where it been colder lately. Is there a chance now that his fuel heater isn't working? Or grid heater isn't getting hot enough? IAT sensor?

These are the only two on-board item that will help with cold fuel.

I doubt if there is a problem there, that's more cold starting and drivability, his complaint is noise with a cold eng. that goes away when warm.

Up here in the frozen north the rattle never goes away, even when the engine is warm there is still a slight rattle you can here. It doesn't go away until temps start getting above freezing. My truck has run this way since new.
