Update of Cummins that just quits

I posted a question about my Dodge truck just quitting randomly just like someone shut the key off a few weeks ago. It first did it about 2 years ago and was fine for two years and it just started doing it again. It was suggested by someone on this site to put a pressure guage on the foreword pressure test port. I did just that and was lucky enough that it stalled right in my driveway after a 45 mile trip. When it stalled the pressure guage just dropped and then it quit. I then bumped the starter and the fuel pump did not come on. Zero pressure. It seems to start up again about 10 minutes later. It also seems to do it when the engine has been idling for 5 - 10 minutes. I did not get a chance to see if the pump was getting 12 volts and not running or just not getting the juice. Any ideas? What controls the voltage to the pump? It almost seems as if it quits after idling because of high under hood temperature. Coolant temp is always ok.

Sounds like you need a new lift pump. Most common problem on these trucks. While you are changing that you may want to look into a Vulcan relocator kit, a Scotty fuel system or a FASS fuel system. Opinions vary on which kit is the best but regardless you need one of them. Eric

The ECM provides 12v to the pump, through yellow wire, white stripe.

0 psi on starter bump means either no fuel getting to the lift pump or dead lift pump. The lift pump gets power from the engine computer.
