Unfasten negative battery to reset computer,,, how often?
Does anyone unfasten thier negative battery terminal so the computer would reset needed or not. I used to do this to my old 454 gasser after running fuel injection cleaner through it. It makes a significant difference in performance and mpg, until the the next reset.
I was wondering if the 01 diesel would do the same.

The old tried and true method of disconnecting the batteries to reset the computer doesn't work on "OBDII" computer systems, normally you reset codes with a good scan tool, or like stated above it will reset itself after several starts. on the 01 you can cycle the key to the "on" position 3 times, and leave it in the on position the 3rd time and check for codes on the odometer read out. If you have no codes, don't worry about it.

There is a fuse in the power distribution box under the hood. You can pull the fuse for the ECM and do the same thing without killing the whole truck. (Clock, radio settings, etc)
It will reset codes but if there is still a problem it will trip the code again.
As for changing the performance... The only thing I can thing of is a APPS reset...Which is requiring a disconnect for 30 minutes...
