Turbo timer help

Looking for a timer to help the cool down time and also to let me keep the truck running and lock it while going into the store, gas station ect. Something I can change the time easy, ive seen some on ebay HKS and I think JDM they are small little units . Has anyone used anything of this sort. Thanks for any help. 1999 cummins

Turbo timers were around many years ago but you rarely hear of them anymore. Not sure why except that I know that there was a problem back then with the trucks electronics and alarm system in relation to using a turbo timer. When you shut the truck off the timer kept it running and the electronics system would freak out chiming alarms and lights in the dash and you also couldn't activate the alarm until the timer shut off. As you can imagine, this didn't make to many people happy leaving their unlocked running truck.

Other than that, I cant say if there's any new designs or new methods of allowing the truck to idle for a period of time automatically. I just wait the few minutes.....

I think ur best bet is viper alarm/ remote start 5901. U can pull ur keys, lock ur doors and shut it off with ur remote. They have a setting for timer as well. I just don't know how to set it. I have the smart start installed too... Turn on motor, unlock/ lock doors from ur cell phone. I think turbo timer is not very productive. My buddy had one on . Putt putted around town burned 5 min of fuel around town.. not really needing the cool down.

I have heard that as long as you do not accelerate like you are on the drag strip in the last few minutes of your drive then you do not need a turbo timer and it may actually be bad for the engine. The idea is that if your car is on and not moving then no air is running through the radiator so the coolant is not being refreshed.

The idea I understood is that the oil running thru the turbo bearing just sits there and cooks after shutdown versus flowing cooler oil thru it. Motor does get hotter after shut down that is a fact.. but I think ur right, as long as u putt putt few blocks from home I think ur good. I've tested this starring at my egt gauge. My temp would stay same cruising home and just idling there
