You can hear the whizz sound and feel the kick in the pants.

Well I get a wurring sound in low speed going up a hill but have never felt a kick in the pants and never had it come on under highway driving except maybe when passing. And this is with my camper. Is this normal?

When you floor it from a dead stop you should feel a dead spot in the acceleration until about 1900 rpm then the truck should take off. At cruise you should be running about 8psi and that is difficult to hear. If you turn off all the accessories and listen you may be able to hear it. The best way to tell what you are boosting to is with a gauge.
