truck stutters under load
I was towing the race car to the track over the weekend everytime in top gear when you give it gas to go up a hill the truck would stutter like if you were going over small speed bumps in road, has any one had this happen to them, truck runs fine other wise without trailer runs great just with load on it ,also have comp set to 2x5 for towing

Coalburner, Is this the MAP sensor? I'm not familiar with MAF. I'm using an oil type filter also, so I was wondering if the problems with my truck could be the MAP if we are talking about the same sensor.

Hey Gene
Sorry about that. The MAP is what I meant to say. MAF is Mass Air Flow, MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure. Different ways of doing the same thing...
I'm at work, and busy today, but I went to dodgeram.org and got the part number for an 01 (5017791-AA) I did not have time to double check it...
If you've got a box check the plug in. Try unplugging the box, at least from the MAP sensor and seeing if the problem still happens.
Wish I knew the volt range, may want to hook up a mutli to see what's going on. Then go to the part store with your multi-meter and check a new one is before you buy it. I think this thing is 60 bucks so make sure that its the problem....
Hope this helps, sorry for the confusion. I'd call my buddy but he just started at Kenworth dealership... don't want to bother him while he's working. If you don't get this resolved soon, I'll try to give him a ring this weekend to get more details.
good luck

I think Twodiesels hit the nail on the head.
Sure sounds like TC shudder to me, i am changing my VB and TC this weekend.
I have the same problem, shudder under load when TC locked up, can't run comp on anything other than 1x5.

Could very well be... I was trying to add additional suggestions to check.
If you want to test the TC, you can do so by checking the stall...
I'm not sure the exact stall speed on the 01, but maybe someone can chime in:
Put the truck in drive, and double pedal it. Left foot on brake and right foot on accelerator. Check the point where the stall happens to kick in and make darn sure you don't do this too long. Things get hot and its not particularly good for your transmission so be quick about it.
If you think its the lockup, you can check that. The lockup is in 3rd 4th/OD on the 01. Get the truck going over 40 MPH to engage the TC lockup, then slightly touch the brake pedal to deactivate the lockup. Watch/feel for the TC to lockup as you just touch the brake pedal. Again you're just trying to turn on your brake lights so to speak, not stop. The lockup should engage.
The TC is a very valid point, but if that turns out not to be the problem the MAP might be another place to look...

Well outta town for a week just came back yesterday truck still stuttering went a head and clean battery terminals and alternator terminals, truck did this when I first bought it they told me terminal was loose on alternator, ran the truck with a 40ft race boat today pulled fine no more stutter hope it stays that way, will let everyone know how things work out THANKS
bluedodge, i had the same thing happen to me one time going up a steep and winding grade through the mountains with NO load (though i was driving it hard). got the stutter when i would even remotely try to accelerate and also seemed like my rpm's were running lower too. finally got to my destination, shut her down for the night thinking that i overloaded the tc. worried about it all night, woke up the next morning, started the truck, let it warm, drove around and still stuttered going up any kind of grade. let it sit for the rest of the trip thinking i would be purchasing a new tc. it came time to go home so i kept it in 2nd gear through the windy uphill ascents and put 'er in drive going downhill till i had a thought maybe it could've been my programmer (superchips supertuner). i pulled over, put the stock program back in and tried to make it stutter but couldn't. i tried hard too. got down out of the mountains and put the hi-performance prog. back in and i never got it to stutter again since (4 months later) in all kinds of terrain. i could only think that it had something to do with the programmer changing some kind of parameter in the computer that was not consistant with the program itself, maybe overboosting or something. my .02
