Truck is missing and acting strange?

I had an inspection sticker put on my truck yesterday and have had nothing but troubles since. I couldnt help but notice the youngster that inspected my truck started it up without heating the glow plugs and just stood on the throttle the whole trip around the service bay. Well after getting in my truck to begin my day I went to fire up my engine and it would not start!! The entire time I have owned my truck it has never missed a lick, always cranks on the first bump of the starter. The motor finally started after letting it spin over a few times so off I went. As soon as I merged in with traffic my truck felt like it lost about half of its power and the engine kept idling down like it wanted to die. This whole time I am shocked thinking what just happened? I had an inspection sticker put on now this. Well I pulled over after about 1 mile of this just too look things over and all vitals were good, oil, water, fuel, etc, so I made it to my destination. After letting my truck sit for a few hours and talking to another cummins owner who has some miles on a 02 3500 we came to the conclusion of my lift pump just died or the vp44 is about to take a dump. So we went out to the parking lot to pull the codes and fortunately no codes shown. Woke up this morning and had two different code scanners read my truck and still no codes. What does everybody else who reads this think? My truck is an 02 with almost 74,000 miles and has never had nothing more than an edge ez. My symptoms are still hesitant to start, loss of power, no codes, engine wants to lug down when reducing rpms by either braking or just coasting, what I mean by lug down is that the engine will surge between 500 and 700 rpm as if it wants to die. Please fellow cummins owners tell me what you think because I would really like to keep this truck for as long as possible!!! I am going to the dealer tomorrow for a diagnosis but my warranty went out about 2 months ago

Check the fuel filter and the pump first. I am waiting on my fass pump and gauges to arrive. I had the same problems.........already replaced the VP44 about 6 months ago.

Well as far as fuel pressure I dont know. I never have installed a fuel pressure gauge. So if only my lift pump died has there already been damage to my vp44? If it is just my lift pump do I replce it with an oem pump or upgrade? I guess I will find out more tomorrow.
