Mine has done that a couple of times and I "think" I've found my problem. The drivers side positive battery terminal is cracked. Both times its happened to me I popped the hood, wiggled the terminal and it started right back. Maybe this is his problem too.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but twice my truck has shut off like that, just out of nowhere and one of the times it was while I was going down the road . The culprit of the problem was the little safety plug thing down about where your right knee would be... well about mid shin I guess actually. At bottom of dash under steering wheel about strait up from the accelerator pedal. Has a Horseshoe looking pull tab on it... well it came loose. I guess these are for if you are gonna park your truck somewhere and you don't want it stolen even if it gets broken in to ???? I dunno.... Like I said, not sure if that's your problem or not but just thought I'd pass it along...

Died like quit running or just staying at idle.

Check for error codes with a scanner. It the best and easiest place to start. A lot of codes won't trip the Malfunction Indicator Lamp.

Happened to me twice recently. First time while driving the lift pump went and the second time the fuel gauge said 1/4 full but it was empty.
