My 01 died yesterday on the freeway. No warning at all.

I got a code scanner and pulled:

P1693
P1689
P1688
P0253

Fuel pressure is 14 at the pump, so the LP is good.

Disconnected the Edge EZ and returned to factory. No go.

From research it looks like a possibly fubared VP.

I also noticed that the passenger side battery is toast. I went to disconnect it and the positive terminal pulled right out! It was corroded pretty bad underneath the terminal.

Would the battery account for any of the codes? All other wires and plugs look good. Nothing is burnt or damaged in anyway.

 

1688 is the true death code of the vp44.

 

Would a faulty battery amount to anything?

That's not the half of it though. Last weekend the motor in my 4Runner seized and the Tcase in my crawler munched the main bearing. It hasn't been a good week.
