Trouble starting sometimes

Here in the past 2 months, my truck has been having problems starting. The batteries are good so i can rule that out. I have a 5 spd. When i turn the key to the ON position, i can hear the LP run and everything, but sometimes when i turn to start it, it will just click (like the batteries were dead) and sometimes it will act like it will try to start and then stop. I turn the key off, let off the clutch, then try again. I can do this 2 to 3 times sometimes then it will finally start up. It doesnt do this all the time, maybe once every 4 or 5 times i try to start it.

Any ideas on what to even look at???

Starter contacts are the first thing that pop'd into my head. Try a search for starter contacts and I'll bet you'll find your problem. I believe you can get a rebuild kit for $35 or so.

Good luck.

Check the clutch switch under the dash also.

Agree with suggestions above but you might also check your positive cable terminals. At times I can got only a click, I know it's a bad cable terminal (over tightened it ) and now it's stretched but just haven't fixed it properly yet. I did insert a small screw between the terminal bolt and the battery post and that solved the problem I caused.

If it's not bad batt. cable or clutch safety switch, it's likely worn solenoid contacts. You might see my post in "How Do I" section. daveg
