Trouble With Buddies 24 V
Trouble With Buddies 24 V
the problem is : the truck starts and runs fine untill he stomps down on the throttle. then it dies and falls on its face. if he quickly puts the truck in neutral then turns the switch off and back on again then back into drive it will take off and run great again untill he romps the go-pedal again. thats about all i know about the problem. he has a bodyshop/garage and his diagnostic thingy is not pulling any codes on the truck. could it be a lift pump ? any ideas ?? oh its a 2001 auto over-valver about 70,000 miles thanks guys, scott
Let's get back to basics.....When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? A clogged filter will starve the system of fuel.
Is it getting air in the fuel line? A leak somewhere?
It's best to check the fuel pressure "post filter". Do a search using "fuel pressure" or "fuel pressure gage" and you can find more info then most people can digest.

so the lift pump gets the fuel from the tank to the fuel injection pump ? then the fuel injection pump bumps the pressure to the injectors ? also i did a search about checking fuel pressure post ( after ) filter and maybe its just me but i didnt really see much. saw a bunch of how to for adding gauges in the truck but not for a test gauge. was hoping to find a step by step maybe with a pic or 2 even if they were drawings. what pressure should we see post filter ? and if that pressure is good is there a way to check the injector pump or is it off to the dealer. thanks again guys, scott
This is an example of how the FP gage is connected to the fuel filter. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...+valve+picture
The 2001, I think, is different and has to go on the bottom of the filter housing or at the banjo bolt on the VP44.
The pressure should be around 12/13 at idle, 10 or so cruising, and no lower then 5/6 at WOT (wide open throttle). You can find gages, lines and fittings in the "Links" section where the vendors are. Or, you can see what you need and maybe find it locally.
VP44...good question . There are as many opinions on the VP as there are grains of sand in Malibu. Sometimes it will set an 0216 code and sometimes it does nothing but weaken or quit. I wish I knew the answer, because I think mine is having problems with the hot weather.

well ill tell you my story. my truck would drive just fine till you stomped the loud pedal. it was jsut like it was idling and wouldnt go. you could cycle the key and it would go till you let off of it and if you tried to go again, it wouldnt do a thing. i thought it was the fuel filter, so i changed it. that didnt help it. so i put a pusher pump on it. that didnt help it. then i put a new lift pump on it. that didnt help it. so i took it to the delear and he said that the injection pump was bad, altho it didnt throw a code. $1800 dollars for the injection pump, $175 for a lift pump, and $75 for a pusher pump. $1950 dollars later, it works like it should.
