transmission temp

Have a 99 24 valves and pull a 25 ft 5th wheel camper.
I do not have a temperature gauge for transmission.. Looking to put one in...
just wondering if this would be the right thing to do or am I just wasting money ?

Funker:

Personally,....I think the installation of a transmission temperature gauge is a very good idea! I have them in both my 1996 and 2006 Dodge CTD Trucks.

Heat is one of the biggest enemies of a Dodge CTD Transmission and monitoring transmission temperature can help you keep those temperatures at acceptable levels. One tip I would give you, is DON'T put the temperature probe in the pan!! Install it in the trans line which is returning the hot fluid back to the trans cooler. That will give you real accurate readings.

Funker, in my 2000 the ECM already monitors transmission temp. I bought an Edge Insight (it is gauges only not a tuning box) and I can monitor up to 9 data sets at once. I monitor engine load %, boost pressure, gear, engine coolant temp and transmission fluid temp. When I was having alternator issues I got rid of engine load and boost and monitored battery voltage and battery temp. Almost anything the ECM knows you can monitor on the Insight. You can even set alarms for things like tranny temp too high or engine tempt too high.

ditto John_p..
I just bought one for my truck..
and my brother-in-law used to own a transmission repair shop..biggest killer of auto trans - HEAT!!!
does the 99 ECM/PCM monitor the trans temp? I don't know, but I'll have 4th gauge to watch..fuel pressure/boost/EGT and soon Trans temp

See if they make a scan gauge for your truck, it goes into the OBD2 port and can monitor , water temp, trany tem, batt voltage, all kind of things, and is reasonably priced, cheer`s
