Transmission shifting problems

Ok, so my truck hasn't given me any real problems since I bought it then today I get in and it starts. It revs really high and won't shift out of 1st unless I get off the throttle. Even after it up shifts it will down shift sometimes when it shouldn't The speedo is jumping around like crazy too. Also, it down shifted going up a steep hill and wouldn't up shift at all. It seemed like when I manualy shifted it down to 1st it didn't do anything.

I tried replacing the vehicle speed output sensor on the trans and unplugged and made sure the plug by the battery had a good connection. I hope this is an easy and non expensive fix. HELP ME!!!

Check your TV cable adjustment first. The linkage on the side of the tranny should move as soon as you press the peddle I believe. Do a search on TV adjustment.

If that doesn't work, may be your governor pressure solenoid and transducer in your tranny.

Mine had the same problem as yours does and after making adjustments on the TV cable, located at your APPS, it now shifts nicely and firmer 1 - 2, however, when the tranny is cold it sometimes hangs up a little from 2nd to 3rd gears.

At the same time, I'm thinking the tranny is worn and soon to need a rebuild.

Hope this helps.

Speed sensor.

This causes the erratic speedo and lack of upshift.

It could be other things as mentioned and more, but this is the most likely cause. And it is very common.

Yeah, I caught it after it was posted.

In that case, I would suspect a bad governor, but would need to check voltages to be sure.
