transfer case lube

How often do I need to change out the fluid in my transfer case (I lost my owners manual so I cant refer to that)? What type of fluid should I use and how much does the transfer case take (I tow a 10000Lb load a couple of times a week-if that makes any difference)? --Thanks a lot, Drew Stuart

PS--Im switching out the Redline MTL (only has 5000miles on it) so I can give the Amsoil MTF a try in my NV5600 and was curious if I could just throw the "still good redline MTL" in my transfer case?

I own a 12V

but the t case is one in the same, Just use ATF fluid, i dont remember how much it takes, I change out mine every other oil change, it sounds weird but i do it anyways. I use ATF with mercon, i buy that one in the red bottle, valvoline i think.

Im not familiar with MTL, so i cannot help u there, im sorry..

The Redline MTL may work, it's in the 30 grade viscosity range, whereas ATF is in the 20 grade range. That may only be an issue during cold weather, but it's full synthetic. Doubt it would increase MPG, like SOME synthetic lubicrant manufacturers may claim.

The standard T-case capacity is a little less than 3 quarts if I remember correctly. If you happen to have the HD version, it may require a bit more than that.
