I have developed a shifting gremlin, I have intermitant shifting. Some times it doesn't shift down to first when stoping. and upon acceleration it is in 2nd gear. And again sometimes it will not up shift from 2 to 3. I did the clean the battery terminals and all the ground connections, and the APPS reset. drove away and it worked flawlessly 2 times and then Bingo back again. Any ideas????????

 

sounds like its time for a governor pressure switch and solinoid.

 

Will be trying that as soon as I get the time, I also notice that the shifting works great if I have the OD switch off, but when the OD is allowed to try it starts to not shift. I don't trust the local dealers, and have been asking around to find a trustworthy shop to deal with.[I'm too old to be trying this on my back in the driveway]

 

Beware tranny shops will convince you it needs overhauling.

 

Had it in the local shop, to check it out. Dropped the mag hytec,(with out draining it first). We poured off the fluid that was still in the pan, and found large amounts of metal fileings in the bottom and around the magnetic drain plug. Plus the filter was plugged with fileings too. The governor switch and solinoid were pulled off the valve body and the internal screens were plugged with metal residue. We pulled the valve body, and you could see the front band was metal on metal, And there was no adjustment left on the band anyway. So Its time for a rebuild. Nothing ever goes easy Thats what happens when you tow heavy for too long. And trust the dealer to adjust your bands.
