tranny to t-case gasket?

I'm putting a new cluth in and when i took the t-case off the tranny, where the t-case meets the trans. there was no gasket, just a machined like surface, i don't see any real need to have one, i've done lot's of chevy's and usually use rtv sealant but was wondering if it's necesary on my truck?

There is no gasket. There is a seal at the tail shaft of the tranny that forms the seal between the tranny and transfer case.
