What is the difference between the chrysler tranny fluid atf+4 and mercron/dext3?

Not sure, but I'm running Mer/Dex in mine, along with some LubeGuard.

Nope, I've been running the Merc/Dec without any problems. I caught on the the idea from Bill K. at DTT.

Without seeing your sig. You have a Mad ECM?

I just got back from the Mopar shop, went to get some liquid gold they call "limited slip additive" and I ask that question. The parts clerk said that it was a special formulation for 2000 and up trannys, that Mercon/Dextron 3 was OK for all up to 2000.
Why doesn't anyone make the ATF+4 if it has been in since 2000?

Chrysler held the patent and didn't license anyone else to make it.

I heard that just recently, they started allowing others to make it.
Hopefully the price comes down as a result.

I don't know if there is a theory to be honest. I would hate to speak for him, but I think he recommends Mer/Dex to be used in his DTT trannys and to change the fluid every 10,000. Speaking from personal experience, since using Mer/Dex the trans does shift better. I don't have a temp gauge so I wouldn't be able to tell if it runs any cooler than with atf+3.
